Position: Operator - Eline (Intermediate and Senior Level)

Position Summary
Typically, successful incumbents have completed one (1) to three (3) years of cased-hole wireline experince driving the units to/from location, rigging up/down at location, servicing equipment/tools and overall on-the-job-training about our business, our customers, and the industry as a whole.
This role is a critical component of our business as many utilize the position as a developmental role leading to Supervisor. However, IPS prides itself in our ability to develop and reward long-term career Operators not interested in supervisor/management roles. As a professional, career Opeartor, a Senior Operator can play the role of coach and mentor to new Operators and Supervisors alike.
Essential Job Functions
Employees at this level must be able to, but not limited to, performing the following functions prior to progressing to the next level of IPS Operations:
- Safely drive the Eline unit (requires a Class 3 license with the air brake endorsement) to and from location, often in difficult driving conditions (specifically weather related);
- Assemble and prepare tools for the job/service;
- Understand, service and maintain all downhole logging tools, bars and CCL's;
- Demonstrate the knowledge of downhole tools/services, their application and principal of measurement;
- Understand the functions and use a multi-meter;
- Service and store the tools and the unit after the job is performed and the Eline unit is returned to location;
- Keep equipment and truck cleaned, serviced and in top maintenance and repair so that a minimum of potential field time is missed;
- Order necessary parts or repair truck on the road or at the job site. Report any technical or equipment problems to the Manager;
- Perform all visual inspections;
- Halt operations of the Eline unit at any time if they deem it unsafe or illegal to drive;
- On an ongoing basis, train in the field service methodology, safety and technical advancement;
- Report all incidents, accidents and near misses to the immediate Supervisor;
- Operates as a team in order to perform the job on site within the acceptable time span;
- Ensure that the quality of work is up to IPS' and our customer's standards;
- See to it that the following records and all other documents are kept current and accurate:
- Driver's log book, Dangerous goods manifest, tuck maintenance log, required inventory records, dangerous goods vehicle placards and line record book;
- Record the taking out and returning of explosives from the magazine and/or radioactive materials to the applicable storage facilities;
- Prepare accurate field invoices, logs and reports so that the billing process can start immediately;
Critical Position Requirements and Skills
- Ability to drive one or two axle company vehicles;
- Ideal candidates will possess a Class 3 license with air brake endorsement;
- Maintain a clean driver's abstract;
- Strong work ethic and the desire to exceed expectations;
- Require a 'performance based' attitude;
- Aptitude for learning and applying new knowledge in new situations;
- Strong mechanical aptitude;
- Some computer skills;
- Strong organization and people skills;
- Experience with documentation, reports, invoicing, inventory, etc is an asset.
Safety Requirements
Must possess the minimum following certifications and ensure they remain in good standing:
- IRP 16
- Safe Start
- Valid First Aid/CPR certification
- Valid H2S Alive certification
- Valid class 3 with Q endorsement
- Valid WHIMIS and TDG Certification
- Driver evaluation survey
- Test negative for drugs and alcohol
Working Conditions
- IPS maintains a 15/6 (on/off) schedule so personal flexibiliy is an industry standard requirement;
- The job typically demands an individual to be on periodically on a 24-hour call out basis and will require working at remote well site locations;
- Depending on the location, some overnight work is required (all accomodations and meals are covered while operating remote);
- The use of radioactive materials and explosive devices will be common as well as working on high-pressure sour gas wells;
- The Junior Operator will be required to drive Eline unit to and from location on short notice and sometimes in extreme weather conditions, complying with all governing laws and statutes.
