Position: Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Coordinator
Location: Grande Prairie (Clairmont), Alberta
Note: dependent upon the skills, background, and the expertise of the successful candidate, this role may be a Junior, Intermediate, or a Senior HSE Coordinator.
Position Summary
Reporting directly to the Super Center Manager and then functionally to the Manager - HS&E, this role works as a team with the existing northern Senior HSE Coordinator to provide proactive leadership and direction in further enhancing the Integrated Production Services (IPS) safety culture and performance. Embedded within operations, the HSE team is accountable for building consultative relationships with operations personnel, all while maintaing the integrity and enforcement of the IPS HSE program.
Working with Corporate HSE and the IPS field management team, all IPS HSE Coordinators:
- Personify the IPS HSE principles and Safety Culture throughout our business;
- Ensure consistent actions support the HSE Strategy and ultimately the IPS Safety culture;
- Work with Operations to prioritize, scope, resource and then implement HSE related projects, initiatives and processes;
- Represent and 'own' all HSE matters in terms of goals, objectives, performance measures and impact, without our business, to our customers, and to industry;
- Collect HSE performance data for corporate, industry and regulatory reporting;
- Provide guidance, training and techinical support on HSE issues;
- Constantly assess the effectiveness of existing programs and participate in the development of new programs, process, and strategies.
Essential Job Functions and Tasks
- Delivery of the IPS New Hire Orientation and Training package;
- Assist in the preparation, revision, distribution and control of the HS&E Manual(s);
- Assist with development of new safety procedures to cope with changes in equipment or the method of operation as it pertains to safety, or as a result of potential hazards being exposed;
- As appropriate, attend and actively represent IPS at external committee meetings, and conferences;
- Developing and maintaining safety awareness within IPS;
- Conduct hearing conservation testing for all noise exposed employees;
- Coordinate and participate in the investigation of all incidents/accidents as appropriate;
- Conducts periodic safety checks of field and base stations to assure the HS&E is in compliance with licensing and safety conditions;
- On-call in order to respond in support of the IPS Emergence Response Plan;
- Work with Operations in order to plan and coordinate the safety training schedules as required;
- Coordinate both internal and external safety related courses as required;
- Perform or assist in the Coordination of Internal/External COR Audits.
Position Requirements
- Post-secondary education is recommended, with a minimum of two (2) years experience in Health Safety and Environment or comparable years of related industry/field experience;
- Note that enrollment in the University of Alberta Faculty of Extension Safety Certificate Program (or an equivalent program) is a minimum requirement once employed in this role;
- Advanced interpersonal skills and must be comfortable speaking in front of groups (training, orientations, etc);
- Outstanding organizations skills;
- Strong computer skills is critical;
- Working knowledge of transportation legislation;
- Possession of both a valid and recognized First Aid and H2S Alive Certificate;
- Valid and 'clean' class 5 Drivers License;
- Personal schedule flexibility - this role will require over-night travel and on-call scheduling.
