Position:  Manager - Northern Area Fleet & Maintenance

Location:  Grande Prairie (Clairmont), Alberta

Position Summary

As a 'working manager' this critical role is responsible for safety inspection, repair, maintenance, and for working with IPS operations to define and/or research future equipment requirements.

Reporting into the Super Center Manager - Grande Prairie, the successful candidate will work with an on-site apprentice and in partnership with the Manager - Southern Area Fleet & Maintenance, to ensure IPS Operations has all equipment requirements met in both t he short and long-term.

Essential Job Functions

  •  Work with IPS Operations Management and the Manager – Southern Area Fleet & Maintenance on future equipment requirements and appropriate capital projects;
o    Including – but not limited to – research, project work, meeting with prospective venders;
  • Maintain all vehicles/units in the Northern Area fleet including medium and heavy equipment;
o    Mainly tandem axle units, hydraulic and overall fleet maintenance;o    As appropriate, some light pick-up maintenance may also be required; 
  • Complete safety and mechanical inspections of all equipment;
  • Maintain all small maintenance tools and supplies;
  • Ordering and receiving parts for repair purposes;
  • Responsible for overseeing the conduct and performance of an apprentice mechanic.

Qualifictions, Skills and Attributes 

  • Qualified Journeyman heavy-duty mechanic;
    • Able to perform light fabrication and welding jobs;
    • Experience in managing work schedules and organizing/prioritizing equipment repair;
    • Commercial vehicle inspection license for truck, truck trailer and semi trailer.
    • Highly organized with a demonstrated ability to prioritize time, effort, and resources;
    • Dedicated to trouble shooting and a strong customer-service orientation;
    • Personal schedule flexibility – this role will work to support and trouble-shoot issues both in the shop and in the field.  There will be periodic travel and/or irregular time schedules required in order to maintain operations.
